Giant interest as Manning and Co. advance

I believe I actually replayed the whole game in my mind.

Here is a quote by Ken Whisenhunt, Arizona Cardinals coach.

"Other than the Giants are on a roll, Green Bay should win the game handily," the executive said. "Unless Green Bay just turns it over and does some stupid (expletive), I would say Green Bay looks pretty good right there. I would say I'd be shocked if Green Bay doesn't win. It could be a blowout."

The odds are GB by 7....obviously still no respect for our Giants...but we like it that way...underdogs, on the road, etc. etc. Glad to see Ross wants to play. I hope he can. Shoulder separations are tricky!

Props to the coaches for the 2nd half adjustment, to the DL and LB's for the pressure and stopping Barber and to the secondary for coming up huge at the end!

However, my biggest prop goes to ELI.

Bonds for libraries, 'COPs' for police building

Barton said when he first began considering COPs he too was "reluctant and hesitant and quite doubtful."

But the public safety building just doesn't have the support, Barton said. He said his son, home from college, didn't know where the police department is, at 275 Forest Ave., while he "knew where all the libraries are."

But the city will have to work hard to find the money to pay for the project, Barton said. Staff estimates the building's cost will climb by about $500,000 for each month of delay after April 2009, based on the $69 million estimate and a 10 percent increase in building materials the city has experienced over the past two years.

"The key is to get us moving down the road and getting this building built," Barton said.

The COPs would be issued in April 2009, when construction is slated to begin.

Smoke causes evacuation at Clinton headquarters

A malfunctioning air conditioning unit on the roof of Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign headquarters caused an evacuation tonight before firefighters arrived and found no fire.

Firefighters were called just before 8:20 p.m. after the malfunction sent smoke into the building at 701 E. Ben White Blvd., Austin Fire Department Capt. Rob Bredahl said.

"There was never actually any fire or any real danger," he said.

Bredahl said such malfunctions are common with air conditions on roofs.

Between 50 to 60 volunteers and staff were in the building when they smelled smoke and someone called the fire department, campaign spokeswoman Adrienne Elrod said. After firefighters cleared the building, everyone went back inside and got back to work.

"The only thing we're suffering from is a bad stench," Elrod said.

Copper wiring, water heater taken in Perry County break-in

Copper wiring, pipes and other items were stolen during a break-in at a structure in the 300 block of Perry Valley Road in Greenwood Twp., Perry County, state police at Newport said today. Troopers said a water heater, water tank, a jet pump and an air-conditioning unit also were stolen from the structure, which is owned by a Millerstown man. The break-in occurred between Jan. 22 and Monday, troopers said.
